The Santa Clara County EMS Agency is proud to announce that the following individuals will be receiving Service Medals from the State Emergency Medical Services Commission for their contributions to the Santa Clara County Emergency Medical Services System:
1) Ms. Consuelo Yokum, Santa Clara County Medical Volunteers for Disaster Response: Inter-Service Recognition Medal for volunteer service and leadership during the H1N1 pandemic emergency in Santa Clara County.
2) Chief Dispatcher Curtis Darnell, Santa Clara County Communications: Inter-Service Recognition Medal for service and leadership to integrate EMS into the public safety stakeholder community.
3) Captain Michael Van Elgort, San Jose Fire Department: Meritorious Service Medal for service and leadership to advance prehospital cardiac care in Santa Clara County.
4) Captain David Huseman, San Jose Fire Department: Meritorious Service Medal for providing superior EMS service and education for over 30 years in Santa Clara County.
The Awards Ceremony will take place on December 1, 2010 at 10:00 am, during the EMS Commission meeting which will be held at the Marines’ Memorial Club and Hotel, 609 Sutter Street, Crystal Ballroom, 11th Floor, San Francisco, CA. - The Santa Clara County EMS Agency is charged with the oversight and regulation of the delivery of emergency medical services within the County. The EMS Agency is responsible for developing and coordinating an integrated emergency medical care delivery system, which is composed of education agencies, hospitals and specialty care facilities. Responsibilities include system planning, training program approval, provider and hospital designation, the establishment of appropriate medical, operations, and quality standards, monitoring and facilitating compliance, and the certification, authorization, and accreditation of personnel. The EMS Agency is also responsible for disaster medical-health planning and response. This includes multiple patient management, emergency public health operations, and medical-health mutual aid coordination.
